ATTIRE INFORMATION PAGE

To help you be prepared we have posted a HUGE amount of information regarding uniforms from getting fitted for your very first Buchanan marching uniform, to care, handling and washing instructions below. Take your time reading all this info and don't hesitate to ask questions about anything.

MARCHING UNIFORM    "A"

During the marching season, the committee chairs for the Marching band and numerous parent helpers will be in the band room on certain days of the week for uniform fittings. Those days will be announced at the beginning of the school year and will be posted on this website. If your student misses their fitting time, they need to contact the marching band committee chair ASAP to make other arrangements.  During the very busy and very hectic time of year, it is critical that everyone stays on schedule and informed about changes.

Parade/Competition Dress Care & Tips:

  • Take your uniform to the Martinizing at Clovis & Herndon and tell them you are with the Buchanan High Band & CG & they will clean it for $2.50 each piece. Don't forget to give them a big THANKS for their support of our program! Ask them about alterations, too.
  • Make sure your pants, shoes & shoe strings are spotless & bright white - always!
  • Proper WHITE undergarments are a MUST for parades and competitions
  • Assigned helmets & plumes should be clean & neat. If yours is not, let someone know.
  • Jackets should be fresh & crispy clean. If not-it's time for a trip to the dry cleaners! (see 1st item on list)

If your uniform needs any alterations, you are responsible. Also, don't forget to take into consideration if the alteration can be modified after the student grows some. If you can not do the alterations yourself, and don't know of a reputable seamstress, ask either the marching chair or upperclassmen for names of a qualified seamstress.

You can wash your uniform pants on gentle, but you should hang to dry. If needed, use a slightly warm iron to press the creases sharp-especially before a competition, parade or show.

Uniform shoes can be cleaned with a soft rag and a gentle all purpose cleaner. For tough black marks take a drop or 2 of liquid cleanser on your fingertip and rub gently to remove the marks. Then wipe with a damp cloth to remove any leftover soapy residue. If you have DrillMasters, those can be thrown in the washing machine and then air dried. Putting the shoes on your patio table overnight usually does the trick! (I've been doing this almost weekly for 3 yrs. to the same pair of DM's and have not had any problems).

If you get any stains on your uniform pants, check with the marching chair before using any chemicals on the white pants. We have found that some cleaners have a tendency to turn the fabric yellow and therefore render the pants useless for parades and competitions.

If you need to purchase new pants or shoes or gloves, click on the appropriate document link listed below for sources and prices. If you have any questions, contact Mr. Luna.

  • Marching Attire pants and shoes are included in this one document, see Mr. Luna about gloves or any other item needed.

Casual Dress for Marching Events   "B"

  • Theme T-Shirt - clean & stain free, lightly pressed if needed (order form on marching page)
  • Blue jeans or shorts as per Mr. Luna & always within school dress code
  • White Based Tennis Shoes - always within dress code

Whether we are on campus or away, we are always representing our school and will always be expected to set the best example, and be in dress code.

 Concert Dress

Formal wear is needed for concert season. See the Freshman Info/Tips page for a list of where other band parents have purchased tuxes & suits at resonable prices. Teens grow so fast, finding a tux at a bargain price is a great idea. Also, see the Freshman Info/Tips page for the PARENT TO PARENT WANT ADS section for great prices on used dress clothing.

MALES

  • Standard tux with white shirt, bow tie, cumberbun suggested but not required
  • Black dress shoes with black or dark socks with the tux - NO WHITE SOCKS PLEASE

FEMALES

  • Required modest black dress - see Mr. Luna to order
  • Black comfortable dress shoes
  • Appropriate stockings, hose, or even knee high nylons are ok
  • For your own comfort hair should be under control or pulled back

Talk to Mr. Luna so see if any of the above items or any band related items qualify for reimbursement from your positive balance student account.

Additional Tips & Reminders

PARENTS!! REMINDER!! Do not allow your student to carry valuables on the bus to away games or competitions. There is no way to secure them and the parent volunteers are not responsible for watching things such as iPods, GameBoys and backpacks that are left behind while the student is competiing. If your student needs somethig to do on those long bus rides, have them bring a book or something they don't mind possibly losing to theft.

BHS AREA NIGHT  On BHS Area Night ALL Buchanan Area schools are invited and encouraged to come out and join in the fun at one of the best game/show nights of the year! Pep & Cheer Squads from several elementary schools, as well as area Intermediate schools will be on hand helping to lend some extra support to cheer on our players on this special night!

**FULL UNIFORM Full uniform means, white marching pants, white mid-calf height crew socks-no logos or decoration, marching shoes with clean laces and no marks or scratches in the shoe, plain white t-shirt under the uniform jacket, white undergarments "tighty whities" for males and "old lady" high cut briefs preferred so nothing shows through the pant when on the field, and helmet and plume. Hair must be under control.

**CASUAL UNIFORM Casual uniform or casual wear ALWAYS means the band t-shirt, blue jeans & shoes as allowed per CUSD dress code. Shorts may be worn on some occasions but check with the Director first. Need another band t-shirt? See the This & That page.

CONDUCT AND BEHAVIOR IN THE STANDS Remember you are "at school" and representing your school and all school policies and rules apply at any game, performance or competition AND especially on the bus whether it be a charter or a school bus. Snacks are not allowed in the stands and water will be provided by parent volunteers so you can remain seated until dismissed.

ESCORTS You are to remain with the band until escorted either to the field, or back into the stands by the Director or parent volunteers (Boosters). Remember to stay with your section or group at all times for a smooth running and fun event! If you have any questions or special needs or requests, first ask a parent volunteer, then the Director. Parent volunteers (Boosters) are there to help the band and are prepared to help you in anyway they can with their handy dandy first aid kit that is packed with a sewing kit, extra regulation undergarments and a variety of other personal items for any emergency.

LEAVING AN EVENT EARLY OR BY ALTERNATE MEANS If your student needs to leave an event early, or you need them to take alternate means of transportation home, make sure you complete and sign a release form for EACH event. We understand that you are the parent, but we have rules and policies to follow to insure the safety of every student. The directors and 100's of volunteers can not possibly remember by sight every parent, step parent or relative and whether or not they are allowed to take the child. The release form will insure that we have the appropriate information so your child goes with the proper person should they need to.

BAND ROOM / LOCKERS Remember the band room is our classroom and everything in it in should be treated with respect! Please DO NOT LEAVE your backpack thrown in a corner, or on top of the drums or cabinets thinking "it's ok for now". Put it where it belongs-IN YOUR LOCKER! If you do not have a locker, or a lock for your locker, see a band director immediately. Your personal items, and school instruments should ALWAYS be locked up when not in use. If you see anything out where it does not belong, please bring it to the attention of a director so whatever it is can be retrieved and secured.

PARENTS / GUARDIANS  - OFF CAMPUS DELIVERIES DURING SCHOOL HOURS If you are planning on bringing your band student a lunch, a change of clothes, a water jug or any other items during school hours, please remember to follow school policies regarding entering the campus during that time. All driveways on the Teague side are blocked except the one closest to the front office where you need to check in. See the school handbook for exact procedures.
